This is a performing group for those who read music, can follow a score for SATB (soprano/ alto/tenor/bass), and love to sing. Excellent attendance and purchase of music are required. Performances are scheduled at the end of each semester. (126)

ACADEMY CONCERT BAND*

The Academy Concert Band focuses on rehearsing and performing literature of medium to advanced difficulty for concert band. This is the same band that meets on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. as an extracurricular activity. It is hoped that those who participate in Academy band on Fridays at 8:30 a.m. also will participate on Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m. This band gives several public performances in the community. (121)

ACADEMY JAZZ EMSEMBLE*

Academy Jazz Ensemble, formerly known as "Stage Band," focuses on rehearsing and performing a variety of "big band" music of various periods. Instruction in improvisation is included. Players should be at an intermediate level or higher and instrumentation is limited to that of the standard contemporary jazz ensemble. Limited to 17 students. (273)

BAND, BEGINNING PLAYERS*

For fun and real health benefits, start learning (or relearning) a band instrument. Learn good habits and good techniques early. Learn to play by ear, gain eye/hand coordination, improve lung function, stimulate brain activity, and have a joyful experience with music and friends. Students will need a band book (available at the Academy), an instrument (look in your attic, rent or borrow—we have a few), and a music stand. Everyone is welcome, whether just starting or taking the horn off the shelf after 60 years. Come out and give it a try. (123)

Explore American music through performance in a small choral ensemble together with historical study. Features works ranging from classical to the Great American Songbook. This class is for those who enjoy folk music and desire to share that enjoyment with others through outreach performances.
